The Real Price of Blue Hydrogen And Ammonia: Should We Trust the Numbers?

23 June 2025

As momentum builds around blue hydrogen and ammonia as a climate solution, concerns are growing about the reliability of the data used to assess its cost and climate impact. Are current pricing assessments truly comparable, or are inconsistent methodologies and assumptions hiding the full picture? As investment flows into blue hydrogen projects, understanding the real numbers and the risks behind them is more important than ever.

In this joint session hosted by the Green Hydrogen Organisation (GH2) and Argus Media, the panel will explore the methodologies behind blue hydrogen and ammonia pricing, highlight the risks of relying on inconsistent data, and discuss what greater transparency could mean for the future of clean hydrogen markets. Light refreshments will be provided.

– Tim Hard, SVP of Energy Transition at Argus Media, will outline how Argus approaches ammonia pricing for blue and green ammonia, and how it evaluates data quality and market signals.

– Joe Williams, Deputy CEO, GH2, and Flore Schmerber, Policy and Research Associate, GH2, will present findings from the "In search of the real price of blue hydrogen" report, examining the assumptions behind widely cited cost and emissions estimates.

Sharan Burrow, Chair of GH2, Alex Hewitt, Co-Chair of CWP GlobalKamlesh Parida, General Manager for Markets and Strategic Partnerships, Fortescue, and Lino Rodiek, Senior Manager at ReNew, will reflect, followed by a moderated discussion.

Moderated by Jonas Moberg, CEO of GH2.
