Hydrogen at a Crossroads: The Emissions Accounting Standards Needed to Ensure Real Climate Benefits

EDF

Whether hydrogen becomes a climate hero or a carbon cover-up depends on the emissions standards governments and international organisations put in place to certify, trade, and use this future fuel around the world. Are we on the right path?

Hydrogen emissions standards set a methodology for determining climate impact and will shape the extent to which hydrogen-based fuels can serve as a real low-carbon solution for aviation, maritime, and other hard-to-abate sectors. Moreover, the hydrogen market is truly global – and credible, harmonised emissions standards will be key to building a trusted and efficient trading system. Without strong standards in place, the hydrogen industry faces major barriers that could undermine both economic opportunity and global climate goals. The science underpinning them is key.

Join us for an interactive discussion on the current direction of travel for hydrogen, and the course corrections needed to ensure real climate benefits and an internationally competitive clean energy solution.

Green Hydrogen Organisation, EDF and NRDC will host a Climate Week event that engages the international policy community working to establish global standards for hydrogen-based fuels.
