Financing Green Hydrogen and Ammonia in Egypt
09 July 2025
13.00-15.00 (EET)
British Embassy Cairo, Qasr El Nil, Cairo Governorate 11451, Egypt

As Egypt positions itself as a regional leader in green hydrogen and ammonia, momentum is building, but so is the urgency to move from ambition to implementation. Nearly 30 MoUs have been signed with international partners, with 10 now entering the next phase. The time is ripe to ask: What must happen now to turn Egypt’s promising pipeline into large-scale operational projects?
In this closed-door roundtable convened by the Green Hydrogen Organisation (GH2), in partnership with the British Embassy in Cairo and Nile University, senior leaders from government, finance, and industry will take stock of where Egypt stands and outline practical steps to accelerate progress.
The discussion will:
- Highlight flagship partnerships such as the UEG–AlexFert green fertiliser initiative and EDF–Zero Waste’s €7bn green ammonia project for shipping via the Suez
- Explore policy advances like Egypt’s 2024 Green Hydrogen Law and new fiscal incentives under Law No. 2
- Position green fertilisers as a strategic priority for both domestic value chains and regional trade
- Strengthen collaboration between DFIs, project developers, and policymakers to unlock finance
Speakers and contributors include:
– Karim Shahin, National Projects Adviser, Egyptian Cabinet of Ministers
– Charlie Garnett, Country Director – Egypt, UK Embassy
– Antoine Willenbucher, Head of Infrastructure, AFD
– Mohamed Hafez, Principal Engineer, EEHC
– Adel Taha, Senior Coordinator, Federation of Egyptian Industries (FEI)

Moderated by Jonas Moberg, CEO, Green Hydrogen Organisation.
This roundtable will also shape the agenda of the upcoming 2025 Regional Forum on Financing Renewables and Green Hydrogen, hosted by GH2 and Nile University this September, and contribute to GH2's policy brief on financing green hydrogen and fertilisers across the MENA region.
